Project Description: 

Note: Co-financing contribution from Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) in the project represent teacher salaries of formal school and paid/to be paid directly from their own bank accounts.
Project Description:
The principal objective is; To contribute to the achievement of inclusive and equitable quality education and promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all (SDGs 4, 5 and 10) in Pakistan. The project specific objective shall improve higher order thinking and science learning among secondary school students through blended online learning with face-to-face instruction in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) province.

This project will be implemented in districts Peshawar of province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) for the duration of 30 months (1st of May 2020 until 31st of October 2023); HOPE’87 Pakistan, Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) and Knowledge Platform are local partners. The project will directly benefit 8,472 school children of secondary school (grades 6 to 10) between the ages 10 to 16 years old with at least 50% girls from district Peshawar. The project result will also directly benefit 240 Teachers of secondary schools (grades 6 to 10) with at least 50% female, 24 School principals/head teachers and 75 parent teacher committee (PTC) members (at least 50% female) through trainings to implement and strengthen the learn smart classroom blended learning solution. Additionally, 10 Education sector stakeholders would be given training including district education managers (50% female), Directorate of Schools and Provincial Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education, Government of KP. Therefore, total project beneficiaries will be 8,746 (8472 children + 240 teachers + 24 school principals/ head teachers +75 PTC members + 10 Education sector stakeholders = 8,746). Indirectly, the projects results will downstream benefits to more than 59,473 persons.

The project in KP province offers one of the most important goals of development; to prepare Pakistani citizens with 21st-century skills. The project offers to make use of technology in establishing an appropriate environment for the development of a cohesive society capable of confronting economic, social and cultural changes at the global level. The project will help move towards a sustainable “knowledge-based society.” The Project will improve the active learning of students by high order learning skills and lead to higher achievement scores in Mathematics, English and Science. Furthermore, it will also result in better teaching performance as teachers will have access to the right digital content and they will be able to monitor and assess the learning of students on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

The specific project results are:
1. Blended learning solutions are introduced in 24 schools for secondary education levels.
2. Blended Learning Methods using the “Learn Smart Classroom” tool available and in use among children in grades 6 to 8 at target schools (50% girls’ schools).
